5 things you need to know about your tarot deck....

The practice of reading Tarot is often thought of as a cliche of New Age culture, but it's history spans back further than most people know of!

Tarot Cards Were Originally An Italian Game

Many historians currently believe that tarot cards originated as a kind of storytelling game played by Italian noble families.

These opulent cards featured designs that incorporated symbols and figures, and were used for an early form of the card game bridge. They were also used for a game called tarocchi appropriati, where cards were laid out at random, and players had to make silly poems about one another based on the symbols that came up. This seems too be the original form of tarot — a game of imagination, rather than an attempt to gain insight about life using mysticism.

The Death tarot Card Should Not Be Feared!

Many people are frightened when they first see the Death card appear during a Tarot reading. After all, doesn’t this mean you’ll succumb to an early death? You can take a deep breath and relax, because the Death card does not indicate death. Instead, this unique Tarot card represents transformation, much like the changing of seasons or the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly.

Tarot Cards Are Not Magic

Tarot is all about intuition...The cards themselves are not magic. The magic comes from within you and the cards are just a way to converse with your higher self. It offers a passage to quiet the mind, tap into the soul’s intuition and speak through the heart. We are all daily receiving messages from spirit, the universe, our guides and angels but often don’t pay attention to them.

Symbology Gives Hidden Insight

There is a lot of symbology within tarot, from an animal, or a particular landscape, to the color of clothing a figure is wearing, there are so many little ways to decipher meaning from within the cards which at first may not be clear, it pays to sit with your spread for a little while to let your intuition pick up on all these little hidden messages!
